Throne And Liberty Demonstrates The Game’s Siege Mechanics
In the ever-evolving landscape of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, Throne and Liberty has been making waves with its innovative features and engaging gameplay. The recent release of Producer’s Letter #7 has brought to light some crucial details about the game's guild siege mechanics, providing players with a glimpse into the epic battles that await them. As the game continues to gather momentum, the promise of guild sieges adds an extra layer of excitement and strategic depth.
Siege Mode: Battling for Stoneguard Castle
At the heart of Throne and Liberty's siege mechanics is the intense conflict for control over the legendary Stoneguard Castle. Guilds will clash in large-scale PvP battles during specific time windows, vying for the honor and strategic advantage that comes with dominating this mighty stronghold. The guild holding the castle, referred to as the "Legion," must defend against the combined onslaught of the entire server.
The anticipation for these sieges is palpable, as a server-wide announcement signals the imminent battle, giving players a 15-minute window to prepare. This preparation time is crucial for strategic positioning, assessing the lay of the land, and acquiring consumables that may tip the scales in their favor.
When the siege begins, a 45-minute clash ensues, with a potential 3-minute sudden death extension if required. Non-Legion players find themselves teleported out of the castle and its immediate vicinity, losing access to instant teleportation abilities to maintain balance. A PvP flag is unfurled, signaling the commencement of hostilities and an all-out war for control.
Offensive Advantages: Unleashing Magical Siege Golems
Throne and Liberty introduces a magical twist to siege warfare, departing from traditional siege implements like catapults and trebuchets. Instead, players can activate massive golems on the outskirts of the castle, unleashing their destructive power to aid in the assault.
These golems come in four distinct types, each serving a specific purpose. Some focus on breaching walls, others on demolishing gates, while a specialized golem can leap over the walls, bypassing traditional defenses. The final type allows dozens of players to ride it, dropping them directly on top of the castle walls for Throne and Liberty Lucent a surprise attack.
This magical approach adds a dynamic and fantastical element to the sieges, ensuring that attackers have a variety of tools at their disposal to break through the defenders' fortifications.
Intrigue and Subterfuge: Sewer Systems and Environmental Challenges
Throne and Liberty takes subterfuge to another level by allowing attackers to infiltrate the castle through its sewer systems. However, these culverts are fortified with seemingly impervious iron bars. To overcome this obstacle, players can exploit the presence of rats and other vermin in the sewers, using teleportation skills to target them and bypass the iron bars.
Yet, the game introduces an environmental challenge by tying sewer usage to the time of day and weather. Rain can render the sewers inaccessible due to flooding, and during colder periods, the water may freeze, slowing down infiltrators. This attention to detail adds a layer of realism and strategy, forcing players to adapt their tactics based on the ever-changing conditions.
Storming the Castle: Usurping the Throne
Once attackers breach the gates and overcome the defenders, the final objective is for the guild leader to interact with the castle's central throne. This transforms the leader into a formidable "Usurper" who must hold the position for three minutes. Success in this endeavor results in the Usurper's guild taking control of the castle.
Guilds are incentivized to support the Usurper, as having more allies in the vicinity reduces the damage taken. This encourages collaborative efforts during the critical moments of the siege, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and coordination.
Taxation and Levies: The Spoils of War
The question arises: why go through the arduous task of capturing Stoneguard Castle? The answer lies in the lucrative rewards of loot and taxes. During sieges, attacking guilds can seize control of Plunder Zones within the castle, siphoning off money from the defending guild. This immediate influx of resources provides a tangible reward for the attackers, aiding in their future endeavors.
The more intricate aspect involves taxation. Trades conducted in the region around Stoneguard Castle are subject to a "tax" paid to the castle's coffers. The Legion that owns the castle can distribute this wealth among its members and allied guilds, creating a dynamic economic system tied to territorial control.
For Throne and Liberty!
In a closing note, game director Jongok Ahn reassures the community that Throne and Liberty will maintain the same monetization model globally as in Korea. Dismissing rumors of a "pay-to-play" model for the global version, Ahn emphasizes consistency in the game's economic structure.
Throne and Liberty officially launched in Korea on December 7, 2023, showcasing significant improvements based on player feedback. The release in the West is eagerly anticipated, with Amazon Games and the developers working towards bringing this exciting MMO to a broader audience. As players await further updates, the prospect of epic guild sieges in Throne and Liberty adds a new dimension to Throne and Liberty Lucent for sale the genre, promising intense battles, strategic depth, and unparalleled excitement for MMO enthusiasts around the world.
Throne and Liberty - Accompany Your GolemThrone and Liberty - Accompany Your Golem
First up is how attackers break into the castle. Instead of using more “traditional” siege implements such as catapults, battering rams, and trebuchets, Throne and Liberty sieges are much more magical in nature. Players can activate some massive golems on the outskirts of the castle and will them into assisting in the attack.
Throne and Liberty - Jumping Lightning GolemThrone and Liberty - Jumping Lightning Golem
There seem to be four types of siege golems. The first two are pretty basic, with one being specialized in taking down walls, and the other more adept at demolishing gates. Another golem is good at jumping over the walls, bypassing the defenders’ advantage, and wreaking havoc in the back lines. The last type of golem can be ridden on by dozens of players, dropping them off just on top of the castle walls, ready to take the fight to the Legion.
Intrigue and Subterfuge in Throne and Liberty
So another way that attackers can infiltrate the castle is to go through the various sewer systems. Each of the culverts is fortified heavily by iron bars that are seemingly impervious to all types of damage. However, the sewers are all infested by rats and other vermin, as expected. Players can take advantage of this by using teleport skills to target the rats, essentially allowing them to go through the iron bars with ease.
Throne and Liberty - Control the Throne RoomThrone and Liberty - Control the Throne Room
Be careful though, as the time of day and weather will affect sewer usage. If it’s raining, the sewers may be totally inaccessible due to flooding. During the colder parts of the day, the water may be freezing and weigh you down heavily, making you move slower.
Throne and Liberty - Storm the CastleThrone and Liberty - Storm the Castle
Once players breach the gates and the defenders, they must have their guild leader interact with the castle’s central throne. This will transform the leader into a “Usurper”, a beefed-up character that must hold that position for three minutes. If successful, the Usurper’s guild will take over the castle. Guilds will also be encouraged to support the Usurper as the more allies they have in the vicinity, the less damage they take.
Taxation and Levies
So why would you want to go through all this trouble to take over Stoneguard Castle? Simple: for loot and taxes! During the sieges themselves, attacking guilds can take over certain key strategic points called Plunder Zones in the castle, essentially siphoning off money from the defending guild. This will directly lead to income and resources that the attackers can use later on.
Throne and Liberty - Be Rewarded in Taxes!Throne and Liberty - Be Rewarded in Taxes!
The more complicated answer is because of taxes. Any trades done in the region around Stoneguard Castle have an associated “tax” that is paid off to the coffers of the keep. The Legion that owns the castle can distribute this wealth to its members, as well as its allied guilds.
Calculations for this reward seem to be very intricate and have a lot to do with percentages and distribution, so it’s best to view game director Jongok Ahn’s letter to the community directly.
For Throne and Liberty!
On a final note, Ahn also addressed that Throne and Liberty will have the same monetization model in Korea as well as the global version. There have been some murmurs that the Global version would adopt a “pay-to-play” model, so he outright dismissed this idea.
Throne and Liberty was officially launched in Korea on December 7, 2023, at 20:00 KST. It has received major revamps in terms of its combat, gameplay, and other progression systems at the request of its massive player base. There isn’t a final confirmation date just yet on when the game will be released in the West as it will be up to Amazon Games and the developers.
